"Asaranna is
Sindarin for 'Time's Gift', because in all truth, a time capsule is
just that: a gift of time. We who open them learn about the people and
culture of when the time capsule was put together, and it is well known
that knowledge is a precious gift, along with the fact that everything
in the capsule is in itself a gift of the past to the future."

This Time Capsule will be
commissioned in 2006 and sealed on July 3, 2006 in a special ceremony
at the Banquet event at the Gathering
of the Fellowship Convention
in Toronto, Canada.
Once sealed, the Time Capsule will be donated to a local museum
and remain locked and secure under their care and supervision, with

Electronic
Contributions
All contributors will be allowed a basic text-only message (Gandalf's
Letter). These messages will be printed and bound together, and placed
within the Time Capsule.
Any larger documents (Scroll of Minas Tirith) will also be printed, and
bound together (to save space), and placed along with a CD-ROM (hope
they'll be able to read it in 2030!) into the Time Capsule. There is a
surcharge
for
colour printing ($5 USD) on large documents; unless paid, documents
will be
printed in black and white. Large documents may include graphics. Once
it is sealed, all
electronic copies outside of the Time Capsule will be discarded. The
large documents must be submitted to the Time Capsule Coordinator
electronically (either by email or a disk mailed in) to be processed
this way. Any paper documents physically sent to us will be treated as
packages (Lembas Wafer, Galadriel's Gift, or Sam's Backpack) and will
cost more.
*Delivered Item
Contributions
Items and packages (Lembas Wafer, Galadriel's Gift, Sam's Backpack,
Palantir) sent to the Time Capsule Coordinator will be opened and
inspected
(for security reasons). Once sealed, packages may be of any shape, as
long as they take no more space than the indicated restrictions, in
cubic inches. The Gathering of the Fellowship reserves the right to
re-package any item submitted so that it may be better accommodated
within the limited space of the Time Capsule.
To make sure your item fits within the space limitations, take three
length measurements of the package in inches (or centimetres) - the
length, the width, and the height. Multiply the three measurements
together (length X width X height) and the result is the volume of the
package, in cubic inches (or cubic centimetres). The Time Capsule
Coordinator will take similar measurements of the delivered item, and
the Gathering of the Fellowship reserves the right to adjust the cost
of the item if it does not fall within the volume restrictions paid for.
