The Gathering of the
Fellowship is pleased once again to begin its art competition, for fans
of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. If you share a love of these literary
works with a talent for artistic expression, this gallery will allow
you to display your work for the world to see. Your art will be
displayed on our website, and the very best of the gallery will be
selected for exhibition in the
Hall
of Fire at the
Gathering of
the Fellowship 2006 Convention in Toronto. The art will then be
judged by our volunteer jury, and prizes will be awarded.
Rules
Beginning immediately, we will accept submissions to the Fan Art
Contest, in the following categories:
-
Paintings:
oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, gouache, etc.
-
Drawing:
graphite, charcoal, ink
-
3-D Art:
clay, sculpture, glass, metal, etc.
-
Young Artist:
age 13-17, any media
Note: We will not accept submissions of CGI,
poster art, or photography.
Art must depict or interpret a scene or character from any of J.R.R.
Tolkien's or C.S. Lewis's literary works. We will consider works
showing scenes or actors from New Line Cinema's
The Lord of the Rings movies,
Mirvish's
The Lord of the Rings
Stage Production, or Disney's
The
Chronicles of Narnia movie, as long as the interpretation is
deemed original by the jury.
There is a
$10.00
USD Jury Fee, which allows between 1 and 3 submissions. There is
a limit of 3 submissions
per artist. Payment of the Jury Fee does not guarantee that your work
will be selected for exhibition in the live show—only that your work
will be displayed in the online gallery and
considered by the jury for the live
show.
Should your artwork be accepted into the live show, you will be
competing for ribbons and prizes. There will be a
Best in Show award, and a
1st,
2nd, and
3rd place award in each category.
The jury will only consider pieces on display for the awards.
All artwork selected to be exhibited in the
Hall
of Fire must be brought to the Convention. The Gathering of the
Fellowship will not assume any responsibility whatsoever for the costs
associated with this process, including shipping and/or customs
expenses. Therefore, we VERY STRONGLY suggest that you accompany your
work to the Gathering event.
To offset the cost of displaying artwork, there will be a
$20 USD
Hanging Fee per piece, payable at the live show upon delivery of the
artwork to the Gallery Administrators (galleries@gatheringofthefellowship.org).
This fee will be waived if the artist brings his or her own easel for
display.
Note: Jury Fees and Hanging Fees will be
applied directly to the costs of displaying the art in the live
gallery. Any proceeds will go towards ProLiteracy
Worldwide, our event beneficiary.
Entries will be accepted through June 1st, 2006. The selection of art
for the live gallery will take
place the first part of June, and the results of the judging will be
posted in the
online gallery by June 15th.
