Greetings!
In Fellowship
has recently seen some drastic staff changes, and once again we are
looking for support staff! If you have an interest in editing,
typesetting, or any of a number of other related tasks, we would love
to hear from you! Send us an email to journal@gatheringofthefellowship.org
and tell us about your interest in helping out!
We have received a good number of submissions for our second issue, due
out in early 2006, and we are beginning to look towards our third
release, which will be available at the Gathering convention in July
2006. We encourage submissions from anyone sharing an interest in
Tolkien's works, and we are happy to work with authors of any
experience level.
In Fellowship is
available free-of-charge to all Registrants to the Gathering, but the
journal is also be available for purchase by non-members for $10.00 USD
plus postage and handling.

Calling all folk...
...who have a passion for Tolkien's writings: we encourage you to
consider joining In Fellowship's Journal team. We have recently
released our premiere issue, and are looking ahead to the second
issue's release in January 2006. It is helpful to have some experience,
but not necessary. We'll find an area to fit what you enjoy doing. We
need typesetters, people for marketing, editors,
artists (if you have a website, please include
it in your email), as well as help for other tasks. Please email us at journal@gatheringofthefellowship.org.
We look forward to hearing from YOU!

Please
send
all submissions to journal@gatheringofthefellowship.org.
Depending on the type of submission, please include one of the
following in your email subject line:
"General Submission (Non-fiction)"
"Creative Submission (Fiction and Poetry)"
"Artistic Submission"
"Letter to the Editor"
"Reader's Voice"
Be advised that
accepted submissions will be subject to a Publishing Agreement between In
Fellowship
and the author(s) with the exception of Letters to the Editor or Reader Voices.
General Content (non-fiction) Guidelines:
- Articles and
essays may be from 1,000 to 4,000 words in length.
- Submissions
must include a bibliography, as appropriate.
- Please
submit in a .DOC or .RTF file
extension. If this creates difficulties for you, please inform us
before sending your submission.
- We would
prefer submitters use the Modern Language
Association referencing style (MLA). Click here
for an excellent guide to MLA...
- You will
receive a confirmation email once we receive your submission.
- Should your work be accepted we will notify you. We
may request minor changes/additions in the editing process.
- A
Publishing Agreement will be sent to you, which is necessary before
your work is published.
Fiction and Poetry Guidelines, as of June
2, 2005:
-
To comply
with the Tolkien Estate's copyright laws, fiction and poetry must not
use any of the copyrighted names from his works. This includes all
characters and place names from Tolkien's works. Fiction and poetry may
only be in a medieval or fantasy setting, with no overt references to
Middle-earth. We would like the authors to take advantage of this and
create their own type of 'Middle-earth'.
- No "slash"-type
fiction.
- This is a
family publication, so please no overly violent or sexual scenes.
- We are open
to different styles of poetry, but please no epic poems over 3,000
words.
-
Please
submit files in a .DOC or .RTF format. If this creates difficulties for
you, please inform us before sending your submission.
- You will
receive a confirmation email once we receive your submission.
- Should your
work be accepted, we will notify you. We may request minor
changes/additions in the editing process.
- A Publishing
Agreement will be sent to you, which is necessary before your work is
published.
Art Guidelines:
- In Fellowship is (currently) a
black-and-white publication, with page sizes approximately 5”x 8”.
- We accept
Tolkien-inspired images in black-and-white-only. If your submission is
in colour, it will be printed in grayscale.
- Art must be
original. Any submission incorporating copyrighted images or unoriginal
art will be disqualified.
-
Please
submit image files in a .JPG
format, no larger than 72dpi
for viewing only. If
this creates difficulties for you, please inform us before sending your
submission.
- You will
receive a confirmation email once we receive your submission.
- Should your
work be accepted, we will require a 300dpi
format of the image for best printability.
When sending your
submission, please include author information in the
text of
the email, not in the file itself.
